Our neighbor Mary gave them a mixed CD and matching pink and blue balloons, our other Folly friend Darlynne brought over cookies and MaMa Anne, PaPa Ed, Caroline and Cross came for a visit. Robert also came and brought a sweet card and gift. After a day of entertaining and hanging out with Chapel and Eli and their cousins, we gave them their matching pink and blue cakes, their matching pink and blue party hats and let them figure out the rest.
Now let me take a moment to discuss the matching element I keep referring to. I never thought I would be "that twin mom". You know, the one that matches their clothes, bibs, shoes, hats, toys.... but I totally am. When they were very little I even had to match their PJ's or I could not get a good nights sleep. Why? Why did it become such an obsession from day one? I think it's because when they sit side by side, or stand side by side, or these days walk side by side, it is so much cuter to see them looking like the true pair they have been long before we ever met them. And I always feel when I go somewhere with just one of them, a big part of the puzzle is missing, it feels lonely to have just one. As I look back on their first year I truly hope that even if the matching gets harder (which it already seems to be getting more difficult as they pass that baby stage) that I continue to celebrate the wonderful partnership that makes them a pair along with honoring all the unique aspects of each one's personality. Conor is loud, curious, and independent. She already imitates phone calls, blows kisses, and waves hello. She is also a big hugger and there is nothing sweeter than getting one of her big bear hugs. Jude is a mama's boy. His feelings are easily hurt, he pokes out his bottom lip when I tell him no and puts his head on the floor to pout as if his world has ended. But he is also all boy - climbing the stairs while looking over his shoulder to make sure I am watching! We have been truly blessed with all of our kids. Like I said before, this birthday is bittersweet because these are the last babies, and they are just simply growing up too fast!
Yeah, I love blogs! They are a terrific way for friends and family to keep up with ya'll. Glad to see you embracing the medium. Great pictures, except of the one of Robert trying to hog the spotlight from the kids. Eli knows what is up and has his eye on him thankfully.
